4k video resolution is beautiful, but is it necessary? The short answer is not right now. The fact of the matter is that most people still do not have monitors that can support 4k resolution. For most videos that are watched online, 4k resolution will only be used by a limited number of viewers.
Is it worth future proofing? Yes, it is likely that higher resolution monitors will become more common within the next few years. That being said, many people are watching videos on their mobile devices, where watching a video in 4k resolution is not even an option.
SWdigital does have the ability to shoot in 4k, but typically I advise clients not to. If your video will primarily be show online, shooting in 1080p is still the standard, and probably will be for the next few years.
